Matsushima's 6,930 Points, Which List They Belong To, and When

Matsushima's men's singles total, his separate U19 and doubles figures, and why the 2026 U.S. Smash reports never state how many points the title paid.
Sora Matsushima was displayed at world No. 3 with 6,930 ranking points in the World Table Tennis ranking marked as updated on 14 September 2026. That is a date-specific cumulative total, not the number of points he received for winning the 2026 U.S. Smash, and it is separate from his U19 singles and doubles standings.
The Direct Answer: 6,930 Points at No. 3
The World Table Tennis ranking page marked its standings as last updated on 14 September 2026 and displayed Matsushima at No. 3 with 6,930 points. It identified his association as Japan, and his WTT profile URL used player ID 135996. (World Table Tennis rankings, 14 September 2026 update.)
The visible heading accompanying that September table does not make its age category entirely unambiguous, so the strongest category confirmation comes from separate dated records.
An explicitly labeled Week 35 table placed Matsushima at No. 3 in men’s singles with 6,930 points on 24 August 2026. A September 2026 men’s world-ranking database also recorded him third with the same total. Together, these records support reading 6,930 as his senior men’s singles figure rather than one of his youth totals.
The usable answer is therefore dated: Matsushima had 6,930 points and was displayed at world No. 3 on 14 September 2026. Both his points and his position can change at the next ranking update, so the figure should not be quoted as an undated current total.

Senior, U19, and Doubles Points Are Separate Lists
Several different point totals appear beside Matsushima’s name because table tennis maintains separate ranking lists. The Week 35 snapshot dated 24 August 2026 showed three distinct standings. (Butterfly Online, “World Top 20 Table Tennis Rankings,” 2026 Week 35.)
| Standing and holder | Rank | Points | Date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Men’s singles — Sora Matsushima | No. 3 | 6,930 | 24 Aug. 2026 |
| Boys’ singles U19 — Sora Matsushima | No. 1 | 38,240 | 24 Aug. 2026 |
| Men’s doubles — Shunsuke Togami/Sora Matsushima | No. 17 | 1,140 | 24 Aug. 2026 |
These figures must not be added together. The 6,930 points measured Matsushima’s individual senior men’s singles standing. The 38,240 points belonged to his separate boys’ U19 singles ranking, and the 1,140 points belonged to the Togami–Matsushima doubles partnership, not to Matsushima as an individual singles player.
The much larger U19 total does not mean Matsushima had more than five times as many senior points. Under the ITTF Table Tennis Youth Ranking Regulations, last updated on 18 December 2024, a youth ranking generally comprises a player’s or pair’s 10 highest non-expired results. Awarded points remain valid for one year, and sanctioned senior-event results can also receive separate youth-ranking treatment. Those regulations do not convert one figure into the other, and they should not be used to reconstruct his 6,930 senior points.
The category label is as important as the number. “Sora Matsushima ranking points” could refer to his senior singles standing, his youth singles standing or a doubles partnership. Without the category and date, the figure is incomplete.
What the 2026 U.S. Smash Title Does and Does Not Tell Us
Matsushima entered the 2026 WTT United States Smash as the sixth seed. He defeated world No. 4 Felix Lebrun in the semifinal before beating Vladimir Sidorenko in the final to win the men’s singles title. The Olympics.com tournament report described the victory as his first Grand Smash trophy but did not state how many ranking points the title awarded.
A separate People’s Daily report on the finals corroborated the sixth seed’s wins over Lebrun and Sidorenko and likewise called the title his first WTT Grand Smash trophy. It also supplied no ranking-point allocation.
The omission does not show that the tournament awarded no points. It means only that the supplied reports do not document the amount. The later 6,930 total therefore cannot be presented as either the event’s full allocation or Matsushima’s net gain from the tournament. A proper breakdown would also need to show whether any earlier results expired or stopped contributing during the same period.
The U.S. Smash title is relevant context for his 2026 season, but the available evidence does not establish that it directly caused his move to No. 3, and it does not reveal the title’s exact contribution to the 6,930-point total.
When Matsushima Reached His Career-High Position
A biographical record of Sora Matsushima places him at a career-high world ranking of No. 3 by 17 August 2026. Because that is a tertiary biographical source rather than a complete official ranking archive, the date is best treated as an attributed milestone, not as a substitute for a week-by-week ranking history.
The biography associates his rise with several notable results: winning WTT Champions Frankfurt in late 2025, reaching the 2026 ITTF World Cup final, helping Japan earn silver at the World Team Championships and winning the 2026 U.S. Smash. Those achievements provide competitive context, but the available evidence does not assign a senior ranking-point value to any of them.
The dated ranking records provide firmer snapshots. The explicitly labeled Week 35 table showed Matsushima at No. 3 with 6,930 men’s singles points on 24 August 2026. The WTT page then displayed No. 3 and 6,930 points in its 14 September 2026 update. (Butterfly Online, 2026 Week 35; World Table Tennis rankings, 14 September 2026 update.)
These snapshots document selected dates only. They do not prove that his rank and total were unchanged in every intervening week, and they do not provide a ledger showing how much each tournament contributed.
Sora Matsushima was displayed at world No. 3 with 6,930 points on 14 September 2026, a dated cumulative men’s singles total. His 38,240 U19 points and the Togami–Matsushima pair’s 1,140 doubles points belong to separate standings, and the exact contribution of his U.S. Smash title cannot be determined from the available tournament reports and ranking snapshots.
